Los Angeles County Congressman Ted Lieu Endorses Swalwell on Second Day of CADEM 2026 Convention
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Today, the Swalwell for Governor campaign announced Congressman Ted Lieu (CA-36) has endorsed his campaign. Lieu represents Californians in Los Angeles County. He is a member of the House Committee on the Judiciary and House Committee on Foreign Affairs. He is also a member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans and Congressional Native American Caucus.
“I’m proud to endorse Eric Swalwell for governor because he is fearless in standing up to the Trump Administration and defending our democracy,” said Congressman Ted Lieu. “Eric and I sat together in the House Judiciary Committee for many years holding bad actors accountable. Eric and I have worked closely to demand accountability, push back against ICE and uphold the Constitution when it's under attack. California deserves a governor with the courage to confront injustice head-on, and I know with great certainty that Eric is that kind of leader.”
Congressman Lieu is the highest ranking Asian American to have ever served in House Leadership. Lieu is a veteran, having served on active duty and then in the Reserves for the Air Force. He retired in 2021 with the rank of Colonel. As one of four Members of Congress with a computer science degree, Ted is frequently sought out for his insights on technology and innovation matters. Lieu has also been a leader in Congress against ethnic and racial profiling, including discrimination against the LGBTQ community and hate toward the Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
ABOUT CA GOVERNOR’S RACE
A February 2026 poll from the highly regarded polling firm EMC Research showed that Swalwell is the Democratic frontrunner for Governor. He continues to gain support from likely voters in the June 2 primary and leads all Democratic candidates.
Swalwell continues to gain support from elected officials, including U.S. Senator Adam Schiff. U.S. Representatives Adam Gray (D-13) and Jimmy Gomez (D-34) serve as Campaign Chair. Reps. Nanette Barragan, Doris Matsui, Kevin Mullin, Jimmy Panetta, Dr. Raul Ruiz and Mike Thompson, have endorsed Swalwell — in addition to local elected officials across the state.
Swalwell, who represents California’s 14th Congressional District in the East Bay, has pledged to be a “fighter and protector” for California, focusing on affordability, economic growth and modernizing state government so it works better for everyone.
Current Governor Gavin Newsom is termed out in 2026, leaving this an open seat and a wide open race. Congressman Eric Swalwell is the only candidate currently in Congress and the only one actively standing up to Trump. The Primary Election is June 2, 2026.
ABOUT ERIC SWALWELL
Eric Swalwell was raised in Dublin, California, by a police officer father and a small business owner mother. The oldest of four sons, he worked paper routes and construction jobs before earning a Division I soccer scholarship and becoming the first in his family to attend college. After serving as an Alameda County prosecutor — where he led the Hate Crimes Unit — Swalwell was elected to the Dublin City Council, then to Congress in 2012. In the House, he has served on the House Intelligence Committee and currently serves on the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, and is the Ranking Member on both the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection and the Judiciary Select Subcommittee on January 6. He and his wife, Brittany, are raising their three young children under the age of 9.
