Sacramento County Congressman Endorses Swalwell, Says He Will Be a Fighter and Protector for Working Families
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Swalwell for Governor announced Congressman Ami Bera, M.D. (CA-06) has endorsed his campaign. Bera’s district is located just east and north of the state capital, Sacramento, and lies entirely within Sacramento County.
“I've had the privilege of serving alongside Eric Swalwell in Congress since 2012, and I know firsthand that he is the real deal,” said Congressman Bera. “We have both served on the House Intelligence Committee, fought tirelessly to protect our democracy and share a deep commitment to supporting the working families that make our state great. California needs a governor who will be a fighter and a protector — and I can think of no one better prepared for that job than Eric. I'm proud to endorse him as our next governor.”
Congressman Bera currently serves on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on East Asia and the Pacific, and on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. Bera is the longest-serving Indian American in Congress and a member of the New Democrat Coalition, a group of more than 110 forward-thinking Democrats committed to pro-growth, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible policies.
Before his time in Congress, Dr. Bera spent more than 20 years as a physician working to improve the availability, quality, and affordability of healthcare. He also served as Sacramento County’s Chief Medical Officer.

A March 2026 poll from the highly respected firm, Emerson College Polling, showed that Swalwell is the frontrunner in the race for governor. He continues to gain support from likely voters in the June 2 primary and leads all Democratic candidates in poll after poll.

Swalwell, who represents California’s 14th Congressional District in the East Bay, has pledged to be a “fighter and protector” for California, focusing on affordability, economic growth and modernizing state government so it works better for everyone.
Current Governor Gavin Newsom is termed out in 2026, leaving this an open seat. Congressman Eric Swalwell is the only candidate currently in Congress and the only one actively standing up to Trump. The Primary Election is June 2, 2026.
