Navy Veteran and San Gabriel Valley Congressman Endorses Swalwell, Says He Will Be a Fighter for Veterans and Lowering Costs for Working Families
LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Swalwell for Governor announced Congressman Gil Cisneros (CA-31) has endorsed his campaign. Cisneros’s district spans communities across the San Gabriel Valley, including the cities of Azusa, Baldwin Park, Bradbury, Covina, Duarte, El Monte, Glendora, Industry, Irwindale, La Puente, La Verne, Monrovia, San Dimas, South El Monte and West Covina.
"As a former Naval Officer, I know what a real fighter and protector looks like,” said Congressman Cisneros. “Congressman Swalwell has been an advocate for service members and veterans. He helped veterans recover more than one million dollars in overdue benefits and passed landmark toxic exposure legislation. Eric's had our back, now we need to have his. Our next governor must be ready to lead on day one, that's why I'm endorsing Eric Swalwell."
Congressman Cisneros is a Navy veteran and former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness. Cisneros was first elected to Congress in 2018, and returned to the House in 2024. He currently serves on the House Armed Services Committee, Small Business Committee, Subcommittee on Military Personnel and the Subcommittee on Intelligence and Special Operations. He is also a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus and serves on its leadership team as Freshman Representative.
Throughout his career in public service, Cisneros has focused on strengthening national security, expanding access to health care, lowering costs for working families, and improving the lives of service members, veterans and military families.

A March 2026 poll from the highly respected firm, Emerson College Polling, showed that Swalwell is the frontrunner in the race for governor. He continues to gain support from likely voters in the June 2 primary and leads all Democratic candidates in poll after poll.

Swalwell, who represents California’s 14th Congressional District in the East Bay, has pledged to be a “fighter and protector” for California, focusing on affordability, economic growth and modernizing state government so it works better for everyone.
Current Governor Gavin Newsom is termed out in 2026, leaving this an open seat. Congressman Eric Swalwell is the only candidate currently in Congress and the only one actively standing up to Trump. The Primary Election is June 2, 2026.
