ASSEMBLYMEMBER MIKE FONG ENDORSES SWALWELL FOR GOVERNOR

San Gabriel Valley Assemblymember Endorses; Highlights Swalwell’s Working-class Roots and Fight to Drive Down Cost of Living

LOS ANGELES, CA — Today, Swalwell for Governor announced Assemblymember Mike Fong (AD-49) has endorsed his campaign. Fong’s district includes the cities of Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, South Pasadena, Temple City, as well as the unincorporated areas of South San Gabriel, North El Monte and East Pasadena.

"California families deserve a governor who truly understands the pressures they’re facing because he’s lived them himself — that’s why I’m proud to endorse Eric Swalwell,” said Assemblymember Mike Fong. “Eric comes from a working-class family and carries those values with him every day. He knows what it means to worry about costs, work hard and fight for stability. Time and again, Eric has stood up for working people, defended our democracy and protected the most vulnerable. And he will do the same as our next Governor."

Fong was first elected to the California State Assembly in 2022. He currently serves as Chair of the Assembly Higher Education Committee and Chair of the Asian American & Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus. He is also a member of the Appropriations; Banking and Finance; Budget; Budget Subcommittee #3 on Education Finance; and Governmental Organization committees. 

A product of Los Angeles County, Mr. Fong graduated from California State University at Northridge with a Master of Public Administration in Public Sector Management & Leadership and from University of California at Los Angeles with a B.S. in Psychobiology and a minor in Education.

Swalwell, who represents California’s 14th Congressional District in the East Bay, has pledged to be a “fighter and protector” for California, focusing on affordability, economic growth and modernizing state government so it works better for everyone.

Current Governor Gavin Newsom is termed out in 2026, leaving this an open seat. Congressman Eric Swalwell is the only candidate currently in Congress and the only one actively standing up to Trump. The Primary Election is June 2, 2026.

ABOUT ERIC SWALWELLEric Swalwell was raised in Dublin, California, by a police officer father and a small business owner mother. The oldest of four sons, he worked paper routes and construction jobs before earning a Division I soccer scholarship and becoming the first in his family to attend college. After serving as an Alameda County prosecutor — where he led the Hate Crimes Unit — Swalwell was elected to the Dublin City Council, then to Congress in 2012. In the House, he has served on the House Intelligence Committee and currently serves on the House Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees, and is the Ranking Member on both the Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection and the Judiciary Select Subcommittee on January 6. He and his wife, Brittany, are raising their three young children under the age of 9.
